The Future of Computing Doesn't Look Like 1985

Anthropic launched Cowork this morning. It takes everything powerful about Claude Code and wraps it in an interface that doesn’t look like the Reagan administration.

When Claude Code launched, developers and nerds like me quickly realized it was useful for far more than coding. Because it runs in Terminal, it can manipulate files, connect to APIs, hook into MCPs and other services. It became my general-purpose operating system where I allocate compute resources from multiple connectors.

My computing workflow changed completely. Instead of constant context switching, I spend most days in Terminal.

But Terminal intimidates most people. The interface hasn’t evolved since 1985, and that’s a problem when the capability is this valuable.

So Anthropic watched how people used Claude Code and built Cowork to give everyone else the same capabilities. I love that they’re doubling down on established market behavior instead of building features nobody asked for.

Same capabilities it has in Terminal, now wrapped in an accessible desktop app. They removed the intimidating interface but kept everything that made it powerful.

For me, this is a glimpse into the future of computing. Specialized software fades into the background. Work gets done as a constant flow of inputs and outputs, without switching from tool to tool.

Once you start working like this, there’s no going back.

Anthropic just opened the gate for everyone on the Max plan.
